Student Ambassadors Shine at Taste of SALT
Since 2004, Taste of SALT has been the preferred visiting opportunity for prospective students and others who are interested in learning more about the SALT Center at the University of Arizona. Attendees participate in a group presentation directed by a member of our Admissions team with the participation of a panel of Student Ambassadors. Visitors learn about our services, our application process, get their questions answered, and receive a tour of our ground floor student spaces.
Most would agree that the highlight of attending a Taste of SALT presentation is meeting our panel of student ambassadors. Attendees get to hear directly from students enrolled in the program and learn about their individual journeys to the University of Arizona. They also learn how these students are using the SALT Center to unlock their full potential.
SALT Center Ambassador, Grant Bevel, a Junior from Naperville, Illinois, majoring in Communication, says, “My favorite thing about Taste of SALT is being able to share my story and being able to interact with parents and students in person. It’s better than just reading about it somewhere.”
Grant recommends that prospective students come prepared with questions and concerns and adds, “I can answer things from a first-hand student perspective as opposed to the other staff. It’s hard not knowing what questions will be asked ahead of time, but that’s part of the fun.”Visitors to Taste of SALT also have the option to sign up for a separate UA Campus Ambassador Tour, which takes place immediately after Taste of SALT. Those who register for this additional tour are escorted over to the historic Old Main building, and then have the rest of the day to explore the campus.
Taste of SALT takes place most Friday mornings during the Fall and Spring semesters. David Cillo, the SALT Center’s Assistant Director of Admissions and Recruitment, says that the Fall sessions are generally smaller, with between 2 to 9 families attending. The Spring semester sessions have higher attendance, with between 8 to 20 families in attendance. Most prospective students visit during their Junior or Senior years of high school. Registration is required and space is limited.
